CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING

 CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING

Critical thinking is to identify the opportunity within any situation.

Thinking is a process that flows in our mind like blood in the body, sometimes we are so distracted in our thoughts that is causes apprehension. Thinking rationally and critically for stumbling blocks was and is the only course of action that led to historical decisions. Our thinking style decides our future. Do we like to compromise with problems or do we think critically and determine a creative solution for it?

Aristotle once said, “ Need is the mother of Invention.”, but I say it is only true for those who are able to think critically enough to identify the opportunity within any situation to invent solutions that require a creative mindset. Today in our classrooms, Educators are practicing multiple educational models like Blooms Taxonomy, Maslow’s theory, Theory of Constructivism and many more within lesson plans to nurture the seeds of the generation. They say “Leaders are not born, They are made.”, then why not be mentally prepared for critical thinking to attain and sustain positive connections to master the art of disaster management? Skills that enable learners to muster up the grit attitude of positive resilience and the motivation of “Yes I can do it.”, attitude of tolerance rather than of giving up in harsh Scenarios, the student may be able to stay positive.

Critical and Creative Thinking is the Foundation

In 21st Century Learning Skills, Creativity and Critical Thinking are two fundamentals for achievement, attainment and social wellbeing. Now how are these skills being impeded in lesson plans? What methodology is right to opt? How are educators able to enhance these skills within the learner? These questions are conceptual to elaborate and Educators can note that the learning objectives are flexible according to the learning style of the learner.

Thinking routines are the foundations for engaging and involving students in their classroom activities, as well as methods for instructors to track their students’ thought processes and learn about their knowledge, misunderstanding, reasoning abilities and comprehension. We may use critical thinking to assess these concepts and make changes as needed. Life requires critical thinking. It encourages you to think imaginatively and “outside the box”. Students with critical thinking abilities become more autonomous, self-directed learners, instead of relying on teachers and classroom time for teaching and direction.

Activities that incorporate reason, logic, imagination, and invention can promote critical and creative thinking at the same time; like focusing on the topic in a logical, analytical fashion for some time, sorting out opposing claims, analyzing evidence, and thinking through alternative solutions.

“Life with critical thinking encourages us to think imaginatively and outside the box.”

Blending Critical Thinking and Creativity make it Easy to Remember

Blending Critical Thinking and Creativity is possible and easy to remember. While conducting a lesson, one can start with any new topic alongside a question to be investigated. This is done within a question to be investigated. This is done within a given specific problem or presents the topic with reverse Blooms Taxonomy. Students then starts investigating the problem that brings yhem to the topic itself and facilitates them with resources to investigate further and asking them to provide solutions while brainstorming, researching various solutions to their situations.

Some suggestions to incorporate Blending Critical Thinking and Creativity in our regular lesson planning and classroom teaching:

  • ·        Embed open ended questions in the learning
  • ·        Assigning responsibilities among learners and also track their progress
  • ·        Asking questions to random students to make sure their involvement to the fullest
  • ·        Effective use of learning environment to engrain students with the excitement to learn more
  • ·        Always embed a global initiatives and perspectives within day to day classroom teaching. This will develop consciousness towards social problems.

As educators, we are the pioneers of tomorrow. The children today are the nationals of the globe and they are the leaders, professionals and helpers of tomorrow. Embedding Critical and Creative Thinking Skills are the urge of today’s learning element.
